
The nation honoured playback singer KS Chithra with Padma Bhushan award. Chithra told Mathrubhumi News that she is extremely happy to receive the award and that it came unexpected.
She thanked the government, music lovers, everyone who encouraged her, producers, directors, music composers and all those with whom she had worked in her career.
She also conveyed her happiness in SP Balasubrahmanyam and Kaithapram Damodaran Namboodiri in winning the award along with her.
KS Chithra, also known as the nightingale of Kerala, has sung over 25,000 film songs in different languages including all the South Indian languages. Apart from the film songs, she has also rendered voice to 7,000 other songs.
She won the National award for the best female playback singer 6 times. She was also honoured by various state governments. Chithra was bestowed with Padma Shri in 2005.
