Scenes from movies Joseph and Trance

Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian Medical Association criticised the unscientific facts narrated in Malayalam movies namely Fahadh Faasil starrer ‘Trance’ and Joju George starrer ‘Joseph’. The association demanded that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) should take the opinion of a medical advisory committee before certifying films depicting medical issues.

IMA condemned that unscientific picturisation in the movies made people misunderstand many facts and it caused threat to the life of many people.

Observing these, IMA sent a letter to CBFC and Minister for Culture and Films A. K. Balan.

It is reported that the unscientific facts in ‘Joseph’ created misunderstanding on organ donation among the people. Hence, many people refused to donate organs and it increased the number of deaths.

Recently released movie ‘Trance’ also promoted false statements on some medicines which are used globally to treat psychological disorders. It is alleged that the movie has given strange and false messages to the audience. Influenced by the movie, people who are suffering psychological problems stopped the treatment.

Hence, IMA state president Dr Abraham Varghese and secretary Gopy Kumar asked CBFC to take action to remove these controversial scenes from the movie. They also demanded that filmmakers should seek the opinion of the medical board before releasing movies which narrate on medical treatment.
