Leena Antony attends classes for tenth equivalent examination
Actor Leena Antony attended the tenth level equivalent examination at the age of 73 as resuming her studies which she dropped six decades back. Thaikkattussery native Leena left school when she was 13 and went to act in drama following the death of her father. Later, acting in plays became her livelihood.
Leena married drama actor KL Antony and the seclusion she was suffering after his demise has urged her to pursue education again.
The couple Antony and Leena became popular through the movie ‘Maheshinte Prathikaram’. Though her husband’s death shattered her, she later acted in many movies, including ‘Makal’, ‘Jo & Jo’ and ‘Munthiri Vallikal Thalirkkumbol’.
Leena’s father Shauri was curious about the schooling of his children. He was an ardent communist and encouraged his daughters to learn theatre performance. Leena recollected the days in which she wrote on posters of the party for her father. Shauri succumbed to Cholera when Leena was studying in the tenth standard in Thaikkattussery school.
Leena’s daughter-in-law Maya Krishna had encouraged her to attend the tenth level equivalent examination. They had also formed a music group of mothers named ‘Thai Mozhi Koottam’. Leena was thrilled when some of the mothers in the group also came forward with an interest to write the exam. She attended the classes organised by Thaikkattussery panchayat before appearing for the examination at Govt GHSS in Cherthala.
