Friends sing ‘Kera Nirakaladum’ to bid final goodbye to popular lyricist Beeyar Prasad

Alappuzha: Natives, family members and friends of lyricist and poet Beeyar Prasad bid him an emotional adieu at the funeral held at his residence in Mankombu here on Friday.

They sang his popular song ‘Kera Nirakalaadum’ before lighting the pyre. He was cremated with state honours.

Prasad passed away on Wednesday. He had been under treatment for brain haemorrhage for the last few weeks. He faced discomfort while attending a television programme in the state capital. He was taken to a private hospital and then to government medical colleges in Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam. He breathed his last in Kottayam.

In 1993, Prasad wrote the screenplay for a children’s film. In 2003, he penned the lyrics for the songs in Mohanlal’s ‘Kilichundan Mampazham’. His hit songs include 'Onnam Kili Ponnan Kili', 'Kasavinte Thattamittu', ‘Kera Nirakaladum’ and ‘Mazhathullikal Pozhinjeedumee’.

His last work was for Lal Jose’s ‘Thattin Purach Achuthan’, released in 2018.

He has also published a novel titled ‘Chandrolsavam’ and was working on another novel.
