The Kerala Story trailer
Following severe criticism of the fictitious claim of 32,000 Kerala girls joining Islamic State, the makers of the controversial ‘The Kerala Story’ movie seems to have toned-down their claims. In the trailer released on Monday, the description of the video stated that the film narrates the “true stories of three young girls from Kerala.”
However, the teaser released five months ago had stated: “Heartbreaking and gut-wrenching stories of 32,000 females in Kerala! Coming Soon!”
The makers and the Sangh Parivar organisations claimed 32,000 women have gone missing from Kerala. In the teaser, one character states she was converted to Islam and taken to Syria. There were 32,000 girls like her, the character said. The description of the teaser claimed it was the story of 32,000 Kerala girls.
Keralites except Sangh Parivar supporters have ridiculed the film calling it RSS propaganda and stating it is not the story of Kerala. The makers were challenged to prove their claim that 32,000 Kerala girls have joined IS. Money has been offered to those who provide evidence.
"The Kerala Story", starring Adah Sharma, is set to be released in cinemas on May 5. The film is written and directed by Sudipto Sen, known for movies such as "Aasma", "Lucknow Times", and "The Last Monk". "The Kerala Story" is backed by Sunshine Pictures Private Limited, founded by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, who serves as the producer, creative director and co-writer on the film.
