Court prevents streaming 'Varaha Roopam' song in 'Kantara' movie

Palakkad: A local court here has directed the owners of the song ‘Varaha Roopam’, featured in the Kannada movie 'Kantara', to stop its streaming following the copyright claims.

Allowing the injunction filed by Mathrubhumi Music, the Palakkad Principal District and Sessions Judge ordered the producer, director of the movie and others from exhibiting, streaming, distributing or communicating to the public the song until further orders.

Release of the song on OTT platform is also restricted.

The notice was also sent to the composer, Prithviraj Productions, Amazon, YouTube, Spotify, Wynk Music and DIVO Music Jiosavan.

A Kozhikode court had earlier ordered that the song could not be used without obtaining the consent of 'Thaikkudam Bridge', the band that composed the original song. It was released through Kappa TV.

Suit for Injunction was filed by Supreme Court advocate Uma Devi. M.
