Tirur: Film director and cultural activist Ali Akbar has been selected for the 8th Saraswathi Award instituted by Sanathana Dharma Vedi Tirur in connection with the Thrikkandiyoor Navaratri festival.
The award includes a cash prize of Rs 10,001. Samoothiri Raja will present the award to Ali Akbar at Kozhikode on October 22 at 10 in the morning. P Balakrishnan, former deputy editor of Mathrubhumi, will chair the function.
Ali Akbar directed a number of movies in Malayalam including 'Maamalakalkkappurath', 'Ponnuchami', 'Pai Brothers', 'Bamboo Boys', 'Junior Mandrake' and 'Senior Mandrake'.
