Chennai: Kollywood star Vijay Sethupathi is mired in controversy after pics of his birthday celebration was circulated on social media. In the pics, the actor was spotted cutting the birthday cake using a machete. Following this, the actor faced criticism and finally issued an apology for using a machete to cut a cake.
Netizens criticised the actor for negatively influencing the people by using a machete for cake cutting ceremony.
Earlier, Chennai police arrested some youngsters for cutting the birthday cake with a machete.
Noticing this incident, many people appealed to act against the actor. Some of them criticised police for a double standard in the case of VIPs and the public.
Amidst this, the ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ actor came forward with an apology over the controversial birthday celebration.
“The celebration held three days before my birthday has triggered a controversy. At present, I’m shooting for director Ponram’s next. The machete plays a significant role in the movie. Hence, I used it for the cake cutting while celebrating my birthday on the set. Many people opined that it could set a bad example to the public. I promise I would be careful to avoid such incidents in future. I apologise and regret deeply If I hurt anyone with my actions,” the actor said in his statement.
On the work front, he was last seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s ‘Master’ starring Ilayathalapathy Vijay. The actor has been receiving good responses to the negative role in the movie.
