Row over erupting ‘Drishyam 2’ film set at protected area; Dist collector intervenes
Thodupuzha: Idukki district collector intervened in the row over creating a film set by encroaching a green islet protected by the panchayat. It is reported that the green islet was encroached for the shooting of Mohanlal starrer ‘Drishyam 2’ .
To settle the issue, the district collector granted permission to the filmmakers to continue shooting at the green islet without harming it. ‘Drishyam 2’ makers have deposited a bond of Rs 25,000 to continue shooting under strict conditions at the protected area.
The set of ‘Drishyam 2’ directed by Jeethu Joseph was arranged at Kaipa Kavala in Kudayathoor panchayat. ‘Drishaym’, prequel of the movie was also shot in the same place in 2013.
This area comes under Muvattupuzha Valley Irrigation Project (MVIP). Hence, the filmmakers paid Rs 4.5 lakh to MVIP officials for shooting the movie here.
But the set for the movie was created in the green islet area which was handed over to Haritha Keralam Mission a year and six months ago.
Panchayat has been protecting this green islet by planting tree saplings under MNREGS project.
Panchayat member PK Sasi has complained against the shooting alleging that the team did not seek panchayat’s permission. Panchayat authority has informed this matter to the district collector.
Following this, the district collector directed Haritha Keralam Mission officials and MVIP officials to inspect the spot.
After finding the complaint genuine, a discussion was held under Haritha Keralam Mission district coordinator GS Madhu. Following the talks, the district authority permitted the filmmakers to construct the set without harming the green islet.
