Rohini teacher, the real-life character in ‘Poomaram’ bids adieu to Maharaja’s College
Kochi: Rohini teacher has spent most part of her life at Maharaja’s College campus as a student and teacher. Now, entering her retirement life after 16 years' long service as a teacher, she has great memories to cherish for a lifetime.
Rohini teacher is a familiar face as she played a role in the campus movie Kalidas Jayaram starrer ‘Poomaram’ directed by Abrid Shine.
“At first, I loved the natural landscape of the campus. Trees and grass have equal importance here. Slowly, the whole college became my favourite place,” said Rohini teacher with a warm smile revealing her fondness for the college.
Rohini teacher who has been treated with the title ‘Chechi of the campus’ will retire from the college on Tuesday. On Monday, the teacher took to her Facebook page and revealed that she will officially retire from Maharaja’s College.
It was in 1981, Rohini Nair arrived at this campus for the first time. She completed her graduation in Zoology from here. Her love for the campus made her continue higher studies here. In 1986, she completed her post-graduation in English Literature.
Following this, she left Maharaja’s and became busy with her research and teaching job. But cherishing the moments of her student life, she used to visit the campus like rushing back to her own house.
In 2004, Rohini joined the college as an English lecturer. Later she was transferred to Thripunithura college. But within five months, she returned to Maharaja’s college.
In 2019, she also got an opportunity to serve the college as principal for a single day. Interestingly, she took charge as acting principal on the occasion of college union inauguration day.
