Prithviraj faces cyberattack over his next ‘Vaariyamkunnan’
Mollywood actor Prithviraj is facing harsh cyberattack over his upcoming project ‘Vaariyamkunnan’ directed by Aashiq Abu. On Monday, the director announced the movie which is based on the life of Variyamkunnathu Kunjahammad Haji, a leader of Malabar revolt.
Soon after the announcement, social media witnessed a cyberattack against Prithviraj.
The movie is facing criticism as a move to glorify Kunjahammad Haji who is allegedly called a criminal. The people behind the hate speech also noted that the movie is not on freedom struggle, but based on Mappila revolt.
They also alleged that Kunjahammad Haji is an anti-Hindu and the movie based in his life will misinterpret the history.
They also demanded Prithviraj should quit the project.
Malabar rebellion in 1921 is a major event in the history of freedom struggle in Kerala. Kunjahammad Haji had taken leadership of the revolt against the British in Eranad and Valluvanad regions. He was a major enemy of the British during the period.
Director Aashiq Abu and actor Prithviraj took to their Facebook page and shared the title of the movie. The movie will start rolling in 2021 which marks the 100th anniversary of Malabar rebellion.
‘Vaariyamkunnan’ written by Harshad and Rameez will be produced by Sikander and Moideen. Shaiju Khalid will crank the camera.
The movie will be another period drama in Malayalam after Mohanlal’s ‘Marakkar-Arabikadalinte Simham’.
