Thrissur: Renowned playwright and painter M Subramanyan Namboodiri, widely known by his pen-name as Thuppettan, passed away at a hospital in Thrissur. He was under treatment for age related ailments.
A dramatist and director, Thuppettan had won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for best drama for his play titled ‘Vannanthye Kaanam’ in 2003.
Thuppettan was born to vedic pandit Ittiravi Namboodiri and Devaki Antharjanam on March 1 in 1929. He did his schooling and higher education at Panjal School, CNN High School, Cherpu, Govt. SMTHSS Chelakkara, Maharajas College and School of Arts, Madras.
He was also a painting teacher at Mundamveli High School for one year and worked in Panjal School for 27 years.
Thuppettan is survived by wife Umadevi, children Suma, Savithri, Ajitha, Ravi and Raman.
