Thrissur: Girija, owner of Girija theatre in Thrissur, has rubbished the rumours which claimed the health department closed the theatre after staff tested COVID positive. Dismissing the fake news, Girija asserted that no staff in the theatre has turned COVID positive so far.
“I decided to close down the theatre due to some health issues and shortage of staff. Observing the COVID crisis, I found it very difficult to continue the operation of the theatre. Hence, it was closed temporarily," Girija told mathrubhumi.com.
She also informed me that the theatre will reopen once the COVID crisis comes under control. At the same time, Girija revealed that another theatre owner is involved in spreading fake news about her theatre.
“A theatre owner is involved in the fake news. I know the person very well. But some online media circulated the fake news without cross-checking the fact. I have been running the theatre following COVID protocol. I have sought the help of police to convince pregnant women and families with infants to leave the theatre observing the risk factors amid the pandemic. Sadly, I am facing such fake news crisis even after abiding by all rules,” explained the owner.
“People above 60 years should not be employed in the theatre amid the pandemic. Hence, I directed all staff above 60 to remain at home. Due to the shortage of staff, me and the manager were engaged in checking the temperature of the people at the theatre. Now, I decided to close the theatre temporarily, as I have been suffering some health issues and shortage of staff also turned a major issue,” she added.
“This is not for the first time, I’ m facing such rumours. When Dulquer Salmaan’s movie ‘Varane Avashyamund’ was released, some people circulated fake news that Girija theatre only screens porn films.
