More Malayalam films to get OTT release as theatres continue to remain closed
Kochi: Due to the closedown of theatres in Kerala, films with a budget up to Rs 500 crores are waiting for release. The big-budget movies like Mohanlal starring ‘Marakkyar: Arabikadalinte Simham’ are included in this list.
Producers informed that the movies will be released on OTT platforms if the theatres continue to remain closed. The Association of theatre owners will meet the Chief Minister next week for discussing this issue. Almost 35 movies are to be released. The theatre owners are concerned about their future as the theatres remain shut and filmmakers opt for OTT release.
There are more than 700 screens in the theatres spread across Kerala. More than Rs 1.50 lakhs are spent on the maintenance of these screens during the lockdown. About Rs 7cr to 10 cr is spent every month for maintenance of theatres. The theatre owners’ association FEUOK said that many of them had to take loans from banks and now face difficulty in repayment.
