Mohanlal’s ‘Spadikam’ to have re-release, director shares first look poster
Amid the lockdown over Coronavirus, Mohanlal fans are on cloud nine after director Bhadran declared that his directorial ‘Spadikam’, a super hit movie in the 90s, will have a re-release soon. The director made the announcement on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the movie on March 30. He also released the first look poster of the movie which will be back to entertain the audience.
Talking to mathrubhumi.com, director Bhadran revealed that though the world is under coronavirus scare, they decided to launch the first look poster considering that people are staying safe with their family at home.
“People are on high alert over coronavirus. So, Mohanlal asked me whether this time will be suitable to launch the poster. As people are staying at home amid lockdown, I thought there is no need to postpone the first look poster launch. The next poster will be launched on the occasion of Mohanlal’s birthday” said the director.
“We are re-releasing the movie for the young generation who already watched it on television and in the internet multiple times. It is for those who failed to enjoy ‘Spadikam’ on the big screen. It is getting ready for re-release with 4K Dolby Atmost sound technology. Rs 2 crore was spent for this purpose,” added Bhadran.
The ‘Spadikam’ director also shared the preparations to re-release the movie.
“The movie was shot with the rare lenses which are not available for a magnum opus. Though it was shot on Eastman negative film, it had a great transformation. At present, 30 per cent of the work is completed. Restoration works are in progress at Prasad lab in Chennai. Sound mixing will be done at Four Frames Studio,” said Bhadran.
He also noted that all the works for re-release will be resumed once the pandemic outbreak is under control.
The shooting of his upcoming movie ‘Joothan’ was also suspended. Bhadran added that around Rs 60 lakh was already spent for the re-release of ‘Spadikam’. A major makeover was given in the title too.
At the same time, some new scenes were shot and added to this old movie.
‘Spadikam’ was released on March 30, 1995. The movie essayed the story of Aadu Thoma and his father Chacko Master. Mohanlal played the role of Aadu Thoma and late veteran actor Thilakan played as Chacko Master.
Releasing the first look poster of the movie, Bhadran remembered late actors including Thilakan, Sankaradi, NF Varghese, Karamana Janardhanan and Rajan P Dev who played pivotal roles in the movie.
