Mohanlal launches project to raise aid for children’s heart surgeries
Kochi: Actor Mohanlal has come out with a health care project to help the poor children suffering from heart-ailments. He has launched the Amrita-ViswaSanthi Health Care project to meet expense of heart surgeries of children in Amrita hospital here on Monday.
ViswaSanthi, a non-profit organisation established by Mohanlal in the names of his parents will undertake the project.
The project in association with Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences will bear the entire expenses of the heart surgeries of children under the age of 18 years. The children belonging to socio - economically backward sections will get benefit of the project.
Mohanlal inaugurated the project on the occasion of his mother's birthday. A 5-year-old girl Simran from Bihar, the first beneficiary of the Scheme, was also present at the function along with her family.
Addressing the event, Mohanlal said that ViswaSanthi Foundation was formed to support those poor sections of the society. In association with Amrita Hospital the foundation is now planning to reach out to other states as well, he added.
The project will meet all the heart surgery requirements of children of those sections even in far off states like Uttar Pradesh, Jammu Kashmir, Lakshadweep Bihar and so on.
ViswaSanthi foundation Managing Director P.E.B Menon, Major Ravi, Dr. Vasudevan, Amrita hospital medical director Dr Prem Nair and Head of paediatric cardiology in Amrita Dr R Krishna Kumar were present at the event.
