IFFK registrations to open from November 8
Thiruvananthapuram: The 24th edition of International Film Festival of Kerala is scheduled to take place from December 6 to December 13 in the capital city. The festival will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at Nishagandhi auditorium. Cultural Affairs Minister AK Balan will preside over the function. Actress Sharada, who has portrayed several strong and iconic women characters in Malayalam cinema, will be the Chief Guest.
Argentinian Director and one of the pioneers of ‘Third Cinema’, Fernando Solanas will be presented with lifetime achievement award. He gained significance for using the camera as a tool in his fight against capitalist forces.
The festival will also show five of the most important films in Solanas career. This would include ‘The hour of the furnace’, which visually marked the liberation fights against neo-colonialism in Latin America, and ‘Social Genocide’, a movie that tries to understand how the entry of MNCs into Argentina and privatisation destroyed its society both economically and politically, among others.
180 films will be screened in the festival in all sections combined which includes competition section, Indian cinema and world cinema. The screening will be held in 14 theatres across the city. Indian experimental cinema package, post-partition Yugoslavian cinema package and homage section which would pay homage to Mrinal Sen, Girish Karnad, MJ Radhakrishnan and Lenin Rajendran will be the main attraction of the festival.
Due to economic crisis, the delegate passes will be issued to the general public for Rs 1000. However, for those registering after November 25, it will be Rs 1500. The delegate fee for students will Rs. 500 and Rs. 750 for registration after November 25.
Out of the 10,000 delegate passes 1500 will be issued offline and rest will be available online. Online pre-booking will be open from November 10. However, online bookings for general public will start only from November 12 as the first two days are reserved for students.
