IFFK Kannur edition pays homage to Unnikrishnan Namboothiri
Thalassery: The Kannur edition of the 25th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) remembered Malayalam film’s grandfather Unnikrishnan Namboothiri here on Wednesday. Director Jayaraj delivered a speech on the late actor and praised his contribution to the industry.
“Unnikrishnan Namboothiri has become the grandfather of Malayalam films with his debut movie ‘Desadanam’. Later, he turned grandfather to Tamil and Telugu films,” said Jayaraj while addressing the event.
“Unnikrishnan Namboothiri accidentally joined my 10th film ‘Desadanam’ in 1999. He was a strong follower of Communism and a believer too. He had the mind of a real monk. He used to contact CM Pinarayi Vijayan as a communist and pay offerings at the temple without any failure,” Jayaraj recollected.
Unnikrishnan Namboothiri’s son Bhavadas expressed happiness over IFFK's homage to his father.
“Apart from an actor, he was the dearest grandfather to all,” said Kerala Chalachitra Academy chairman director Kamal.
Director Santhosh Mundoor and Chalachitra Academy secretary C Ajoy also addressed the event.
