Health condition of singer S P Balasubrahmanyam extremely critical, says hospital
Chennai: The health condition singer S P Balasubrahmanyam who is undergoing treatment for Covid-19 in MGM Healthcare here, is extremely critical, said a hospital bulletin on Thursday evening.
"He is on ECMO and other life supports. His condition has deteriorated further warranting maximal life support," the bulletin, issued by Dr Anuradha Baskaran, Assistant Director - Medical Services, MGM Healthcare, further said.
The 74-year-old multilingual musician was admitted to the hospital on August 5 after he tested positive for COVID-19.
On August 21, in a statement issued to the media, the veteran singer's son SP Charan had said his father was stable and tested negative for coronavirus.
But later on September 8, the medical bulletin from the hospital had said he remains stable but his clinical condition warrants an extended stay in the ICU and continues to require ventilator and ECMO (heart-lung assistance) support. It also had said that he remains awake, responsive and his vital parameters were satisfactory.
