Film industry in crisis: Film Chamber slams govt for not providing help
Kerala Film Chamber raised a sharp criticism against the state government for not extending help to the daily wage workers in the film industry who went jobless amid the lockdown. The association demanded that stars must come forward to help the producers who are on the verge of a grave financial crisis.
Earlier, some top Mollywood stars had extended help to the daily wage workers in the film industry. Film Chamber examined that the financial crisis in the film industry will not be resolved with the help from a few stars.Theatres in the state has been closed for more than 50 days. Mollywood is going to face huge financial crisis. In this background, the government should introduce an economic package to help the industry, demanded the Kerala Film Chamber.
Film industry contributes a huge amount to the government as tax. Considering this, the government should intervene to ensure the welfare of the daily wage workers in the film industry, asked the association.
Film Chamber also requested the government to give relaxations in the renewal of theatre licenses and collection of electricity bill of theatres amid the lockdown. Film Chamber also alleged that government did not respond to their request in this regard after submitting a memorandum.
