Cinematographer M. J. Radhakrishnan passes away
Thiruvananthapuram: Renowned cinematographer M. J. Radhakrishnan passed away following a cardiac arrest at a private hospital around 7 pm here on Friday. He was 61.
Son of Punalur, Tholicode native Janardhanan Vaidyar and P Lalitha, Radhakrishnan is survived by wife Sree Latha, son Yadu and daughter Neeraja. Radhakrishnan been a cinematographer for 75 movies. He has won the Kerala State Film Award for best cinematographer seven times besides several noted international awards.
Radhakrishnan started his career as a still photographer. Later he shifted to Thiruvananthapuram and worked in the still photography sections in certain films in which Shaji N Karun was the cinematographer.
Then Radhakrishnan started working as an associate cinematographer under Shaji N Karun, who was a major influence in his life. Radhakrishnan's first independent work as a cinematographer was ‘Maamalakalkkapurathu’ (1988), directed by Ali Akbar.
Radhakrishnan entered Bollywood with the movie ‘Ek Alag Mausam’ (2003). His last movie was ‘Olu’ directed by Shaji. N. Karun. Radhakrishnan’s won the state film award for Deshadanam, Karunam, Adayalangal, Ottakkayyan, Bioscope, Veettilekkulla Vazhi, Akasathinte Niram and Kaadu Pookkunna Neram.
