Actor Bineesh alleges insult by Anil Radhakrishnan Menon at college event; director apologises
Palakkad: Actor Bineesh Bastin has alleged insult by Malayalam director Anil Radhakrishnan Menon. Bineesh revealed that he was told by the authorities of Palakkad Medical College, where he was invited as chief guest, to come an hour late for the event as director Anil Radhakrishnan Menon did not want to share stage with a ‘third grade actor’. The director was invited to the college for the release of the college magazine.
Reacting to the allegation to Mathrubhumi News, Anil Radhakrishnan Menon expressed regret over the pain that he had 'inadvertantly' caused to Bineesh Bastin. He also claimed that he was planning to cast Bineesh in one of his future films. His statement that he did not want to share stage with ‘anyone’ else because it would amount to stealing their limelight was taken out of context. He does not want to be labelled as an upper cast man just because he has a 'Menon' in his name.
The incident took place on Thursday at 6 pm. An hour before the ceremony started, the college principal and college union chairman visited Bineesh at his hotel and told him to come an hour late for the inauguration. When asked for the reason, the college authorities told him that director Anil Radhakrishnan Menon had threatened to walk out of the event if he had to share stage with Bineesh.
However, Bineesh did not pay heed to this. He attended the event and even went up to the dais where the director was addressing the crowd and sat down on the floor as an act of protest. Eventhough the principal asked him to get off the stage, Bineesh said he needs 30 seconds to say a few things. Upon leaving the stage, Bineesh was greeted with cheers from the students. The incident has evoked strong response in the social media.
