“Not afraid of intolerance; won’t quit cinema” – Priya Varrier
Thrissur: Priya Prakash Varrier received a cartoon of herself in a winking pose, amidst many smiling faces and some fuming ones, and said – “I’m not afraid of intolerance. I won’t quit film industry.”
After stating her decision, she winked twice, just as she did in the controversial but popular song, for the cartoonist who was drawing her.
Priya was on a surprise visit to the two-day cartoon camp of Kerala Lalithakala Academy at Thiekkinkadu Maidan, organised in connection with the 100th anniversary of Malayalam cartoon. She was an unexpected guest at the programme.
Priya said that she takes the recent controversies and criticisms in a positive manner and she is not scared. She added that she does not know more about the case filed in Hyderabad for hurting religious sentiments.
Mathrubhumi Chief Subeditor and Cartoonist K. Unnikrishnan sketched a cartoon of Priya during the camp. Lalithakala Academy Chairman Nemom Pushparaj assured support from the arts world to Priya.
