TG Ravi in his farm
Veteran Mollywood actor TG Ravi who rose to fame with the movie ‘Sandhya Mayangum Neram’ released in 1983 has been leading a simple life in his ancestral house in Thrissur. Talking to Mathrubhumi, he confidently stated that ‘I’m happily living here alone. The memories of my dear Ambili is also with me,” said the actor.
His house named Ambili also proves his statement. His wife Ambili breathed her last on September 11, 2011. He believes that death can only steal her physical presence. This belief gives him strength to lead a lonely life in the house.
TG Ravi aka Raveendranath, a native of Moorkkanikkara in Thrissur, is not only an artiste but also an engineer, football lover and businessman. He has completed 60 years as an actor including the characters in 250 movies in a 48 years long film career and roles in many stage plays. While talking about his villain roles at the age of 77, he described those roles as ‘poor thug’.
He lives in the house which was constructed for his elder son Ranjith Ravi in 2015. He feels the presence of his wife Subhadra aka Ambili in this house. Ambili used to give the best review of his roles. But when he made an impressive transformation by playing character roles, Ambili is not with him to laud his performance. Though he misses his wife, he hides his tears and engages in a busy life. Interestingly, he is not leading a life of an alcoholic. He had quit drinking and smoking 40 years ago.
Ravi as a farmer
"I wake up at 5 am every day. First, I will make a cup of strong black tea. Then I head to the vegetable garden at the terrace. I spend two hours taking care of the plants. Bitter gourd, snake gourd, ash gourd, pumpkin, lady’s finger and spinach are growing in my farm," said the actor.
Love for rubber slippers
TG Ravi loves wearing rubber slippers. “Dhoti, shirt and slippers. This is my style. It is very comfortable,” said Ravi.
In old movies, he was often found without a beard. He started growing beard after assuming charge as Kochin Devaswom Board president. Later, he decided to continue the look.
Grandson makes film debut
TG Ravi’s grandson Rithwinjay, son of actor Sreejith Ravi, has also made his acting debut. The 6-year-old boy will be seen in Dhyan Sreenivasan’s upcoming movie ‘Prakasan Parakkatte’.
“I visited the shooting location at Kozhikode as he was adamant that I have to be there,” he recollected.
Sreejith and his family are residing close to their ancestral house at Moorkkanikkara. Ravi’s elder son Ranjith and his family are settled in Botswana, a country in South Africa. He is working as a CEO of a firm.
