`Virus' was irrestible, says Poornima

Sooraj Sukumaran

In an interview with Mathrubhumi, Poornima shared her expectations about her comeback movie 'Virus'.

It’s hard to believe that for 17 years Poornima was not in film industry because she always stayed in the hearts of Keralites. Even though the actress took a break from film industry after her marriage, she was always in the limelight with her designer studio Pranaah and through television shows. In an interview with Mathrubhumi, Poornima shares her expectations about her comeback movie 'Virus'.

About character in Virus

My character in the upcoming movie is Smrithi, Director of Health Services (DHO). According to the writers, the motivation for developing this character came from the four main officers who worked during the period of Nipah outbreak. Most of them helped us during the period of film shooting by sharing their experiences. We tried to follow the body language and gestures of these people by viewing the press conferences conducted during the Nipah outbreak. The full team including director Aashiq Abu supported me to give complete justice to the character.

Life after marriage changed as the priorities and responsibilities differed from a wife to a mother. So I rejected most of the offers. But I was very particular about choosing a best character when I am making my come back. So for me Virus was an offer I can’t miss in my career, said Poornima.

I believe that there is no use of regretting after we miss something important. But I think, if I have rejected Virus, I would have regretted it later. This is such a great movie that it will be a topic for a study in future.

Poornima also expressed her happiness to act after a long gap of 17 years.

My whole family is devoted to cinema including my husband Indrajith, my daughter, mother-in-law, Prithviraj and Supriya. So cinema is our bread and butter. For 17 years I worked in the industry behind the camera and this whole year was never like a long vacation. But returning to the front of camera is a different feeling. Because there is a lot of changes in the industry. I think Indian film is having a great period of films. So it is really good to return to acting in this beautiful era.

Upcoming movie 'Thuramukam' with Nivin Pauly, Indrajith

My upcoming movie Thuramukam directed by Rajeev Ravi is based on a historic moment. Nivin Pauly is the hero and Indrajith is also playing a lead role in the movie. Like virus, this movie will be part of history.

For me the role in this movie was really challenging and I doubted myself for doing it perfectly but I still tried my best.

There are no combination scenes between me and Indrajith in this movie. Actually, we never discussed this topic when we decided to act. Because, the importance of character was the only concern.

Enjoy every moment

It’s hard to do everything right in life unlike cinema. Life is really like a circus. If we consider doing everything as job that will get boring by time and I believe that whatever we do with great passion will be a success. I enjoy every single aspect of life even during all this busy schedules.

Virus has made a great impact on my life as well as career. This movie had given me a lot of chance to learn and think about different circumstances. I hope every person who watch this movie will have a chance to have the best experiences which can be cherished for a lifetime.
