Keralite who introduced Napoleon and GV Prakash to Hollywood
The news about Tamil actor Napoleon, who shot to fame in Kerala after playing the villain Mundakkal Shekharan in ‘Devasuram’ movie, making his Hollywood debut had come out earlier. The film titled ‘Devil’s night: Dawn of the Nain Rouge’, made by the American production company Kyyba films, released on an OTT platform on June 23. The film which talks about early history of Detroit city and its myths has already gained lots of attention in America.
Kyyba films, which was set up in Michigan in 2017 by GB Thimotheose and Tel Ganesh, has a GV Prakashkumar movie also under production in the background. GB Thimotheose, one of the partners of Kyyba films, talks to mathrubhumi.com about the company’s Hollywood ventures.
Thimotheose, a Keralite from USA, and Tel Ganesh, a native of Madras, joined hands for making movies. So far, four films have been born from this union. ‘Devil’s night: Dawn of the Nain Rouge’, ‘Celebrity Crush’, ‘Trap Story’ and ‘Christmas Coupon’ are the movies made by Kyyba films, along with some rock music videos. Although, Thimotheose is a native of Thiruvananthapuram, he has been living in USA for a long time now.
Devil’s night: Dawn of the Nain Rouge and 'Mundakkal Shekharan' of Keralites
‘Devil’s night: Dawn of the Nain Rouge’ is the debut film of Kumareshan Duraiswamy aka Napoleon. Napoleon has been friends with Tel Ganesh for a long time. They hail from the same place, Thiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu. Ganesh, who admires the actor in Napoleon, invited him to act in a Hollywood film.
The movie was directed by Sam Logan Khaleghi. It is a crime thriller. The main character of the movie, a police officer who investigates an important serial killing case, is a woman. She is someone who joined the police force after retiring from military. The crimes that take place, are all related to a mythical creature called Nain Rouge in Michigan.
The thriller proceeds by including the intervention of Rouge in the story set in modern era. Napoleon dons the role of a Museum keeper in Michigan. Rapper Eminem’s brother, Nathan Kane Mathers, also makes his acting debut through this movie. He plays the role of a detective involved in the investigation.
The history of Detroit, which is famous as the place of origin of motor car companies, is also portrayed in the movie. The history of Michigan-Detroit and the resurrection of its economy could be the first of its kind visual experience for Indian audience. The economic resurrection of the city, which languished in the late 70s and 80s is also touched upon in the film.
Thimotheose said that premiere shows were held for the movie in packed halls in South America and Canada. He believes that it was the cinematography and its sound design that attracted the audience to the film. The movie is available on Amazon Prime in dubbed versions and also with subtitles.
‘Celebrity Crush’ was directed by Oliver Robbins, who worked as the assistant of legendary director Steven Spielberg. Robbins, who acted as a child artist in Spielberg’s ‘Poltergeist’ (1982), was made assistant director after Spielberg identified his directing talent. The movie released on Amazon on May 26. Along with Robbins, Alissa Schneider, Jonathan Daniel Lee, Eddie Craig also acted in the movie. The movie is 91 minutes long.
Christmas Coupon, Trap City
Christmas Coupon tells a love story directed by Daniel Knudson. Famous Tamil music director, GV Prakashkumar is acting in the movie, ‘Trap City’, which will be directed by RicKY Burchell. This will be GV Prakashkumar’s first Hollywood venture. He will be seen along with Brandon Jackson in the movie that reflects the life of rappers.
