Kalidas Jayaram opens up on his dream role in career
Young actor Kalidas Jayaram made entry into the hearts of Keralites through his first movie ‘Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal’ as a child artist. He also won the National Award for best child artist through his second movie ‘Ente Veedu Appoontem’. His debut as a lead actor in Malayalam movie was through ‘Poomaram’. As ‘Happy Sardar’, his fifth movie as hero, is about to release, Kalidas shares about his new projects and experience in the film industry.
About ‘Happy Sardar’
The movie is about the love affair between a Punjabi boy and a Knanaya girl and the story of their families. My character’s name is Happy Singh. The movie is directed by a couple – Sudip Joshy and Geethika Sudip.
This movie is a complete family entertainer. Everyone who watched the first out have disclosed the same opinion. I have never tried such a genre and is my first mass entertainer. Everyone should tell me the shortcomings from my part. I have to correct and move ahead.
Did the fame you gained at an early age become a challenge?
Even now, people call me after watching ‘Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal’ and ‘Ente Veedu Appoontem’ on TV to tell that they loved the movie. Those films were talking about family values which is why the audience can connect with it easily.
And of course, when the master genius directors like Sathyan uncle (Sathyan Anthikkadu) and Sibi uncle (Sibi Malayil) are directing, any actor will act well. So, the credit goes to both of them. I got state and national awards for best child artist. But the greatest honour is the people’s love and they call me ‘Appu’ after watching the movie. I’m lucky for those roles.
Once Kalidas was a star of trolls. How could you outshine them by making self-troll?
Not once, even now they are making trolls on me. But it is really creative. It is not easy to make people laugh. They do it well. If we work better, they will not have to make trolls. If we are working hard, we don’t have to get annoyed by other matters.
What is your dream role?
Any character is a challenge for me. Many people are dreaming about movie industry. So, it is indeed a tough task to satisfy the audience. I’m enjoying the process. Let more challenging characters come. I will think about it only then.
