Fahadh Faasil encouraged me to improve my performance: Nimisha Sajayan
Mollywood actress Nimisha Sajayan acted in very few films, but the 24-year-old has found her niche in Mollywood. Irrespective of age and character, Nimisha has been amazing her audience with strong female characters. In an interview with Mathrubhumi, Nimisha opened up about her journey from her debut movie ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’ to her latest release ‘Nayattu’.
Entry to Mollywood
I was born and brought up in Mumbai. But I wanted to become an actress since childhood. I attended the audition for ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’ while doing graduation in Mass Communication at Mumbai KJ Somayya College. As I was not fluent in Malayalam, they rejected me. But the next day, they called me again. At that time too, they didn't confirm anything.
Later, they called for a third audition in the presence of cinematographer Rajeev Ravi and scriptwriter Syam Pushkaran. On that day, they narrated the script for me. I was confident to commit the project as director Dileesh Pothan and Syam had given a clear idea about my role and the plot.
Police role in ‘Nayattu’
When I got the offer, I thought the role of a policewoman may need a lot of energy. But later I realized, I should handle the role in a subtle manner. Though it was a throughout role, there were very few dialogues. In most of the scenes, the character communicates through expressions. At the end of the movie, she takes a strong stance. I would like to express my gratitude to the director and the scriptwriter for choosing me for the role.
Role in ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’
No housewives influenced me while playing the lead role in ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’. Most of the people told me that they related the character with their mother while watching the movie. But only very few people related the character with their wives. The movie is dedicated to all mothers who are sacrificing their lives in the kitchen. I approached the character in the same way.
4 years, 8 movies
I enjoyed and took great effort while doing each movie. Till date, 8 movies were released. Some movies are yet to release. I have tried to do something unique from my part in each movie. I think support from the crew also matters a lot.
Fahadh Faasil is a great co-star
Fahadh Faasil influenced me a lot from my debut movie. While acting in ‘Malik’, I found it very difficult to play the character well. But Fahadh Ikka used to tell me ‘Let’s try once more, Nimisha can do better'. He was ready to do a scene multiple times to improve my performance. He always motivated me that I can do better. Fahadh Ikka is great.
Seriousness about profession
I have been very serious about this profession from my debut movie. I am getting good characters in all movies. I’m very hopeful about my upcoming releases ‘Malik’ and ‘Thuramukham’.
Women-centric movies in Malayalam
Many Malayalam movies are being produced on female-centric subjects. I think the response from the audience brought such a positive change. People have started to watch and demand such movies. The success of ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’ proves this fact.
