RajishaRajisha Vijayan may be a newcomer to Malayalam Cinema but she is a very familiar face in the mini-screen. Now, Rajisha has won the best actress award at the Kerala State Film Awards 2016 which was announced on Tuesday.  Excerpts from an interview with Rajisha.

Who is Rajisha?

I have been involved with the Malayalam film industry for the last two years. Anuraga Karikkin Vellam is my first movie but I have been active in the anchoring scene and have worked with many TV channel programmes. It will be a lie if I say I never dreamt of entering movies when I was still actively anchoring. That part was there even though I was awaiting the right opportunities.

I am an average Kozhikode girl and have dreamt of the tinsel town with the charm it holds for any normal girl like me. For the last few years I have been living in Ernakulam due to my father's official requirements.

How did you reach Mollywood?

Rahman Khalid was a good friend. When he was casting for this movie he had called me up casually asking if I had any suggestions for an actress. I did suggest some names then. A month later he called me up again and asked me if I could do the movie myself. The friendship took me all the way to movies.

Was this the first offer you received?

No, it wasn’t. But this was the first movie where a role offered to me had some substance. I liked the story line and the character. She was a lovable character, even though vastly different from me. Yet, I could see some traces of myself in her too.

About Anuraga Karikkin Vellam?

As clear from the trailers and songs, Anurga Karikkin Vellam is a realistic romantic comedy. Directed by Khalid Rahman, the script is by Naveen Bhaskar who has worked behind movies like Monsoon Mangoes and ABCD.

The movie deals with the aspects of love, family and humour in a good measure.

What is your character like?

My character is called Elizebeth aka 'Eli', an emotional and sensitive girl, very dissimilar to what I am in reality. She is sensitive and touchy and falls in love with Asif Ali during her college years. Maniyan Pillai Raju plays the role of her father in the movie.

How was it like to work with Asif Ali?

As an actor, Asif Ali is terrific. He was a great person to deal with and not once did I feel I was a newcomer. The atmosphere was that comfortable. He is busy with the work of his own production right now and has been missing out on the promotional events due to that. Biju Menon is also handling an important role in the movie.

So, what are your future plans?

I came from the anchoring field, so most people ask me if I am going to return to it. But for now, I would like to wait for interesting stories and roles and would accept if any come by.
