Dubai: Dreamliner aircraft is Air India’s most advanced aircraft. Air India has operated one service of Dreamliner from Kochi International Airport. But from the last two months, Dreamliner service from Kochi has been cancelled. Air India also informed that Dreamliner service from Nedumbassery International airport will not be operated till September.
It is hinted that attempts are made to stop the one and only Dreamliner service to Kerala. Commuters as well as airport staff have been demanding immediate intervention to resume the service.
This Dreamliner service was operated on the stretch of Kochi, Delhi and Dubai.
Following the Balakot airstrike, air traffic through Pakistan’s air space was banned. So, Indian flights were forced to cover long distance and thus duty time of air crew was also extended. Claiming this, earlier Air India cancelled Dreamliner service to Kochi from March 13 to April 31. Air India replaced Dreamliner with A-320 Neo aircraft for service from Kochi.
Compared to Dreamliner, 94 seats are less in A-320 Neo plane. Hence, passengers from Dubai to Nedumbassery are irked with this replacement of the aircraft.
Air India’s Dreamliner has 18 business class seats and 238 economic class seats. Whereas A-320 Neo plane has 12 business class seats and 150 economic class seats.
As Jet Airways ended their service due to financial crisis, there is a fall in flight services from Nedumbassery. Following this, air fares have been skyrocketing during the season and weekends. In some days, flight tickets are not available on busy routes.
At the same time, Air India argued that Dreamliner service from Kochi was cancelled as only Delhi airport has the facility to repair the aircraft. Meanwhile, the national carrier also informed that a new Dreamliner service on the stretch of Dubai-Delhi will be started from June.
Emirates Airlines has been operating Dreamliner service from Dubai to Kochi without interruption. Emirates charge Dh 4500 for business class ticket in Dreamliner. But Air India’s Dreamliner fare starts from Dh 2500 to Dh 2800.
As there is reduction in number of flights and seats, ticket rate of flights from UAE to Kerala is skyrocketing. After Ramzan season, schools in Dubai will be closed for long vacation. Due to this, there will be huge rush for tickets to Kerala in July and the ticket fare is also expected to rise.
It is learned that there will be a sharp increase in the ticket fare of flights to Gulf countries by the end of August.
