Village offices to install swiping machines soon
Edappal: Villages offices in the state are soon to be installed with swiping machines. This would be a blessing for those who wants to pay for small and big amounts at the village offices including taxes. Also it would put an end to the plight of the officials to deposit money at banks and treasuries.
For years, village offices have been collecting money in the form of taxes, revenue recovery, onetime building tax etc. Even though there is an order limiting the amount of money in possession of the village officer to Rs 5000, usually they are forced to take around more than Rs 50,000.
Until this money is deposited in treasuries or banks, they have sleepless nights. If it is lost, they would be held responsible.
Also when these officers go to bank or treasury to deposit the money, their works in the office get delayed. The new move will put an end to all these issues.
The system of using the ATM card of the consumer in the swiping machine to deposit money directly from the bank account to the government’s account will be implemented.
The system is being implemented in association with IT Mission and Federal Bank.
In the first phase the machines will be installed in the 132 village offices in Kannur district. The machines have already reached the Collectorate.
The machines will be installed in 125 village offices which are already providing online services, this month itself.
The project will be extended to all districts in the coming months.
