Rate of ‘njalipoovan’ crosses Rs 100 during Onam
Kottayam: For the first time, rate of ‘njalipoovan’ variety of banana has crossed an all-time high price during this Onam, Rs 100 per kilo.
Besides those who cultivated njalipoovan variety of banana, middlemen and sellers also profited from the sale of this variety.
At some retails shops, njalipoovan was sold for Rs 120 per kilo. Less sugar content has made it dearest to diabetic patients. Moreover, tradition of serving njalipoovan along with Onasadya has made it in demand.
However, sellers said huge destruction caused to banana cultivation in flood have pushed the price of njalipoovan.
Palenkodan variety of banana was Rs 40 per kilo. At some retail shops, it has reached till Rs 60. Ethapazham was sold for Rs 80.
