Price of vegetables shoots up in Kerala
Kalpetta: Price of vegetables is skyrocketing day by day. Within two weeks, a huge difference in price has been witnessed in the state. The price multiplied for beans, tomato, carrot, chilly and shallots.
Beans which was available for Rs 30 now costs Rs 80 per kilo. Price of tomato reached Rs 50 from Rs 20. Traders said that sale of vegetables has come down as the price increased.

Vegetables sold in Kerala are imported from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The reason for the rise is due to less production in those states, said traders. Unavailability of water to irrigate the farm fields resulted in less production and the continuous rain in Karnataka the other day also destroyed most of the vegetables.
The increasing heat also destroyed the vegetables brought for sale. Due to heat, beans, ladies finger, tomato and coriander leaves get withered within a day, lamented traders.
Besides vegetables, price of fruits also saw a huge increase. However, the price hike hasn’t affected the sale of fruits. Rate of apple starts from Rs 150. Orange and lemon costs Rs 120 and Rs 100 respectively.
