Over 8-yr-old vehicles to take fitness test every year
Kollam: The transport vehicles which are 8 years old need to update the fitness certificate only once in 2 years. But those that are more than 8 years old should update the certificate every year.
The new vehicles need not necessarily have fitness certificate at once but have to take it after two years of registration. The new conditions were updated in the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act. The order came after the Central Motor Vehicles Act (CMVR) of 1989 was amended.
Also the condition to paint dark brown for national permit vehicles and the necessity to have two drivers was also lifted. The vehicles should mark ‘National Permit’ or N/P on the front and rear side of the vehicle. For vehicle trailers, it should be marked on the back left.
The vehicles carrying dangerous goods should be painted white. All vehicles should have vehicle tracking system. Flourescent tapes should be pasted on the front and back sides. Also they should have FAStags.
While laden with goods, they should be covered properly. The construction materials and waste should be compulsorily covered with tarpaulin.
All vehicle documents can be submitted for verification as soft copies. Though it was mentioned in the IT act of 2000, many vehicle examiners stubbornly demand the hard copies and so this was pointed out specifically.
