Ernakulam: Persons who passed the new driving test from Ernakulam Regional Transport Office will receive driving licence issued from the central government. Earlier, state motor vehicle department was issuing the driving license. The Ernakulam RTO office made the move after the implementation of Sarathi scheme for licensing under Union Ministry for Transport and Highways.
At present, a Keralite can drive anywhere in India if he or she holds license issued by state motor vehicle department. But with the launch of Sarathi scheme, the central government will issue license to the new drivers.
The central government has launched two new schemes titled ‘Vaahan’ and ‘Sarathi’ for the unification of driving license and vehicle registration. Vahan scheme was launched for vehicle registration and Sarathi for licensing.
The new driving licence issued by central government bears six types of security feature. QR code, hot-stamped hologram, Guillochepattern, Microlines, golden national emblem and Micro Test with International error are the new features. Details of the person is also printed on the card.
The driving license in PVC card form looks great in its design with a combination of light yellow, green and violet colours.
It also titled ‘Indian Union Driving Licence’ with the emblem of union government. State government’s hologram is also stamped under the photograph of the person.
The QR code on the license will give access to all the details of license holder.
Inaugurating Sarathi project, Ernakulam RTO Joji P Jose received the first application for new driving license from Krishna Priya on Saturday.
