No seats on trains, absurdly high airfares - public in distress ahead of Onam holidays
Kochi: Ahead of Onam holidays, the vacation journeys are in trouble as there are no seats available on trains and the flight companies are looting passengers. No seats are available on trains running to Chennai, Bengaluru and Mumbai from Kerala during the Onam days. Meanwhile, the airfares are more than double the normal rates. It is also reported that private buses operating to Chennai and Bengaluru are charging a bomb.
Sleeper class tickets on trains from Chennai to Kerala on September 7 and 8 are on waiting list that too above 100. In AC coaches, it is above 30.
The situation is similar from Bengaluru also. Sleeper class tickets on waiting list in Kanyakumari Express reached above 280. Also, the cancellation of many trains including Mangala Express, are adding to the plight of the passengers.
Meanwhile, airfare during Onam holidays have skyrocketed. The flight charges from Chennai to Kochi is between Rs 2500 to Rs 3000 which normally remains below Rs 2000.
The airfare from Mumbai to Kochi is between Rs 3500 to Rs 4000 which also was between Rs 2000 earlier. From Bengaluru to Kochi, it is Rs 3500 during Onam days which was at Rs 1800 earlier.
