Kerala start-up wins national award for contribution in COVID-19 battle

Kochi: A start-up of women entrepreneurs in Kerala has won the award constituted by the central government in association with UN women.

‘Thanmathra Innovations’ in Ernakulam has won the award in the ‘COVID-19 Stree Shakthi Challenge’ organized by MyGov Platform of the central government in association with UN Women. ‘Thanmathra Innovations’ was listed among the top three start-up companies in the challenge.

Dr Anusha Ashokan and  Dr Anjana Ramkumar represented the company in the challenge. Start-up companies across the country took part in the event. Dr Anusha is the founder of the company and Dr Anjana is the product manager.

In the challenge, ‘Thanmathra’ group introduced an antimicrobial solution which turns face mask including towels safe to use.

The start-up established in 2018 mainly focused on services to cancer patients. Amidst this, they started experimenting on solutions to counter COVID-19.

‘COVID-19 Sthree Sakthi’ challenge was organized to encourage women to come out with unique ideas in the battle against the pandemic. The challenge was conducted for 1,265 candidates in two phases namely - ideation stage and proof of concept stage.

Six start-ups including ‘Thanmathra Innovations’ were declared as winners of the challenge.

A cash prize of Rs 5 lakh and Rs 2 lakh were awarded to the first top three companies and other three companies respectively.
