COVID -19 impact: Kerala goes online, 30% rise in internet usage
Thiruvananthapuram: Following the nationwide lockdown to counter the spread of coronavirus, internet usage has surged by up to 30% in Kerala. It is observed that people have been widely using online entertainment platforms and it led to increased internet usage.
At the same time, the rise in the number of employees working from home has not contributed much to the rise in internet use. Most of the employees are working through remote access system. With this system, they have been using the international bandwidth used by their companies. Hence, working from home will not increase internet usage.
Mobile companies offer special package
Various mobile companies have launched special internet packages for people who are working from home. Internet service providers have been using 15 per cent of data from the reservable bandwidth.
