Mattannur: After Air India Express made successful flight operations from Kannur airport, Air India is also set to start services from here. It is reported that the Air India is planning to operate international and domestic services from Kannur.
Domestic services will be operated from Kannur to major cities including Delhi. It will help in operating vacation special tourism packages from Kannur.
Earlier, public representatives and Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) had demanded for the same.
Ahead of the launching of services, Air India representatives visited Kannur airport.
Air India will operate international service with wide-body aircrafts. Meanwhile, works to establish Instrument Landing System (ILS) is underway in the airport to make arrangements for the landing of wide-body aircrafts. Air India will kick off the services from January last week.
However, KIAL has initiated action to start more services from Kannur airport. In connection with this, a meeting of airlines will be held on January 21 at Thiruvananthapuram. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and secretary for civil aviation ministry will attend the meeting.
Representatives of selected foreign airlines are also invited for the meeting.
Meanwhile, services to Thiruvananthapuram has not started yet from Kannur.
