A noted novelist and short story writer in Malayalam, Benyamin is best known for his novel Aadujeevitham. Originally named as Benny Daniel, he hails from Pathanamthitta of Kerala. He has published 18 books in Malayalam including eight novels, three short story collections, a travelogue and memories.
Al Arabian Novel Factory, Euthanasia, Second Book of Prophets, 20 Years of Christian Quarrels, Yellow Lights of Death, Shareera Shasthram and Jasmine Days are some of his other major works. Benyamin has won many honours including Padmaprabha Literary Award, Abu Dhabi Malayali Samajam Literary Prize, Atlas Kairali Story Award, Abu Dhabi Sakthi Award and Norka Roots Pravasi Literary Prize.
He was selected for Pattathuvila Karunakaran memorial award for the best literary personality of the decade. ‘Jasmine Days’, the English translation of his novel ‘Mullappoo Niramulla Pakalukal’, bagged the inaugural JCB Prize for Literature, the literary award that offers the highest cash prize in 2018 and Crossword Award for best translated work.
