Thiruvananthapuram: At MBIFL, the session on the fractioning Congress was moderated by the renowned journalist R Sreekantan Nair. Legislator and Congress Spokesperson V.D Satheeshan along with the journalist and political analyst Sunnykkutty Abraham participated in the discussion.
V. D Satheeshan mentioned that the party cannot help but divide and grow as party workers are more and chairs are less. The difference in attaining positions is the cause of the division but certain factions unite with others when the need for the chair is met with. There is no difference in ideology or belief and hence they all stay within the party.
The reason for the existence of such factions in Congress party is due to the fact that the party is tolerant with such divisions. The Communist party is intolerant and hence any difference of teaming would result in immediate expulsion from the party.
Sunnykkutty Abraham stated that the Congress party leaders should work towards one party and one group irrespective of their craving for leadership positions. He mentioned that the growing factions will weaken the political party over the course of time and hence the party should look into the matter with urgency.
The session ended with the remark that division will lead to the decay of the Congress Party.
