After Nehru no one else has given more importance to foreign policy than Modi: T. P. Sreenivasan
Thiruvananthapuram: Prominent diplomat T. P. Sreenivasan said that After Jawaharlal Nehru, no one else has given such importance to foreign policy than Modi.
He was speaking at Modiplomacy, a talk on his book 'Modiplomacy: Through a Shakespearean Prism' with noted journalist Arun Lakshman.
The book is about the five years of Narendra Modi's foreign policy which the author had been following closely.
Sreenivasan claimed that it was the most objective book on Modi’s foreign diplomacy. He argued that other books on the topic were either written by ‘fans’ of Modi or those who were anti-Modi.
When asked about why he selected Shakespearean prism to look through to Modi’s diplomacy, Sreenivasan explained the connection between the PM’s actions and hero characters in Shakespear’s plays.
He divided them into acts just like the plays to make Modi’s foreign diplomacy easy to narrate as a story.
The acts were divided into plays that included Modi’s swearing in ceremony, which was attended by leaders of South Asia; how Modi’s approach shifted; how Modi strengthened India-US relationships; how he coped with the Trump effect; how the strengthening ties with US affected India’s relationship with China and Russia; how disappointment with Trump made Modi turned back to China and Russia.
