Peter Rich’s seminal research into African space making, has informed his approach to the design of human settlements especially when interacting with cultures other than one’s own. His work, be it the design of a new capital city or the relocation of a family or community, attempts to address the sensitive issues of cultures embracing increasing change in becoming more urbanized. African cities in 15 years are developing at a rate that most existing cities took 150 years to evolve. His recognitions include International Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (INT. FRIBA), Honorary Life Member of GIFA (Gauteng Institute of Architects), Fellow Sydney Sussex College, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (Hon FAIA) and SAIA Gold Medal for Architecture.
