Father’s Day: Our fathers are under stress
Alappuzha: “Father has no potential to overcome stress as much as mother. Many a times, it is fathers who get worried soon over matters of children. Though it is not shown outward, fathers bear the stress mostly. Studies conducted in foreign countries and Kerala at different times show this”, said Dr B Padmakumar, Head of the Department of General Medicine.
Earlier studies carried out by All India Medical Institute and Psychiatry Department of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College had found that stress of fathers are increasing. In the light of the study, doctors said the stress increased as the fathers get aged especially under the social culture of Kerala.
Socio-economic survey of state government shows the loneliness they suffer after getting relieved from the responsibilities of a father after the children’s marriage which has a great impact on their lives.
In Kerala, 41.93 lakh persons above the age of 50 are considered senior citizens. Among them, 18.53 lakhs are fathers.
More than the worries in office, what really affects fathers are the tensions at home. Always, fathers undergo the stress of financial burdens of life. Although it is the mothers who are more worried for living away from children, surprisingly it is fathers who develop physical ailments due to such stress, says the study of Psychiatry Department of Medical College.
According to study, 85 percent of children in Kerala love care and protection of fathers.
