World Heart Day: Meet this Kasaragod woman whose heart is in the right place, literally!
Madikkai: My heart beats at the right, said Sreejina, keeping her hand on the right side of the chest. This Kasaragod native woman has a rare condition of Dextrocardia, in which the heart is pointed toward the right side of the chest.
CK Sreejina, wife of Chalakkadavu native Jyothilal, came to know of her condition, 13 years ago when she was pregnant.
However, 35-year-old Sreejina has no health issues due to Dextrocardia and leads a healthy and happy family life. “Though I was taken aback for a minute on knowing my heart is on the right side, it has not occurred to me as any difficulty,” she says.
She also has some humourous tales to narrate in connection with her heart. In 2019, she experienced a chest pain and was taken to hospital. ECG was taken, but there was no variation in heart beat following which doctors instructed them for immediate expert treatment. On the way to another hospital, she remembered that she forgot to inform the doctor that her heart was on the right and not left where ECG was taken. The whole family laughed it off during which her pain disappeared.
Daughter of Thrikkaripur natives, Chandran and Shyamala, Sreejina reached Madikkai n 2004 after marriage. Her husband Jyothilal is a painter labourer and daughter Vishnupriya is a class 8 student at GVHSS Madikkai II.
