Price of medical oxygen to be regulated for 6 months in Kerala
Thrissur: The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has decided to regulate the price of medical oxygen which is essential in COVID-19 treatment. This will be included in the list of essential medicines and the price will be regulated for 6 months.
The price of the medical oxygen in liquid form has been fixed as Rs 15.22 and Rs 25.71 for gas form. The maintenance charge of the cylinder need to be added in this. GST will be added extra for oxygen in both forms. This is the price of the gas produced and distributed indigenously.
The order also makes it clear that the price will be valid till March 2021, if no other order is issued. The price of the gas used for inhalation is already regulated.
Before COVID outbreak, 750 metric tonnes of oxygen per day was required on an average in the medical sector in the country. This increased to 2800 metric tonnes in the current circumstances.
