New health care programme for Kerala announced in budget
Thiruvananthapuram: A comprehensive primary health care programme, not withstanding the Ayushman Bharat health insurance programme of the Centre, was announced in the new budget presented on Thursday here in the assembly.
Merging RSBY and Karunya programme, the new health care programme will avail health insurance to all families. The government will pay the premium of RSBY scheme and the premium of government employees, said Thomas Issac.
In total, the government is paying insurance premium of 40 lakhs people and added that others can pay premium on their own and join the scheme. An amount of Rs 5 lakh will be given as insurance amount for lifestyle diseases, added the finance minister.
Ayurshman Bharat programme of the Centre had promised health insurance to over 50 crore people of India. However, Kerala, Telangana, Odisha, Delhi and Punjab refused to join the scheme. During the announcement of budget, Thomas also said that the Ayushman Bharat programme was a fraudulence.
