H1N1 threat prevails: 77 patients seek medical help
Palakkad: The number of persons affected with H1N1 fever has not decreased so far. A total of 77 persons were confirmed with H1N1 in Kerala in January 2019. The cases of H1N1 infection were reported from all districts except Kasaragod. Three deaths in connection with the disease were also reported.
Most number of persons were diagnosed with H1N1 in Ernakulam. A total of 14 persons were affected with the disease in the district. 13 persons in Thrissur and 10 persons in Kozhikode also were affected with the disease.
The H1N1 cases began to be reported in the state since August 2018. The climate change and flood also was the reason for this. The disease was confirmed in 801 persons and 53 among them died last year.
With the disease spreading, hospitals are providing free treatment. The medicine Oseltamivir is made available in private hospitals, Karunya medical stores and private medical stores.
The state health department has stocked about 3.5 lakh medicines. Karunya pharmacy and Kerala Medical Service Corporation (KMSC) also have ensured sufficient stock of medicines.
The health department authorities have directed to apply for new stock of medicines, if the present stock of H1N1 medicine goes less than 20 percent in hospitals. However, it is alleged that the delay in submitting the application result in shortage of medicine.
