Thiruvananthapuram: Cancer patients in the state are struggling due to the implementation of flood cess. The financially insecure patients are put in distress as they have to pay a huge sum to buy already expensive medicines.
The life-saving medicines of cancer patients cost around Rs 3 lakh. The flood cess is increased according to the price. Thus the price rises further leaving the patients in dilemma.
The patients opined that they cannot manage to afford the huge price in addition to the physical discomforts caused by the medicines.
There is a difference of up to Rs 80,000 in the price of medicines when purchased from government medical stores instead of private medical stores.
