First Covid jab for all within September: Ernakulam initiates `SPONSER A JAB' campaign
Kochi: To provide everyone in Ernakulam district with at least the first Covid jab within September, the district administration has initiated " SPONSER A JAB " campaign.
The campaign is aimed at ensuring the first anti-covid vaccine for all, before a possible third wave of the pandemic. The objective is to make the citizen protected. Individuals, community organizations, banks, departments, offices, arts and sports clubs, companies and shops can sponsor the vaccine for others. Similarly, Local Self Government Department too can find sponsors for the vaccination drive. The entities can enroll as sponsors by making payments through the online portal of Kerala Medical Services Corporation (KMSCL). Presently, only Serum Institute’s Covishield can be sponsored through the platform.
Meanwhile, a dose of vaccine will cost Rs 782, including GST. Guest workers, individuals from socially and economically backward background and people from unprivileged sections will be given priority in the drive.
Interestingly, Ernakulam district has already vaccinated 90 percent of population. The district has also completed the vaccination of 50 percent of guest workers due to the cohesive efforts of labour department and health department.
The district administration is planning to vaccinate college teachers as campuses will reopen by October first week. In this regard, the list of individuals will be prepared at the panchayat level and vaccination camps will be arranged. In the next phase, vaccination drive will be conducted in schools for individuals in the age of 12 to 18.
